I have a parrot, okay more than a few,
their intelligence is beyond words and oh so true,
to love them is simple and oh so unique,
yet I wonder sometimes — why they do what they do?

When I clean their cages do they wonder why?
are they afraid of new things or simply just shy,
their toys specially crafted, are they even aware,
yet makes me wonder do they even care?

To love one is special, I feel so blessed,
it is not always simple, they can put you to the test,
it brings joy to my heart their life full of zest,
yet I wonder sometimes — why they do what they do?

Their eyes deliver a glimpse through to their souls,
Where love, food and shelter are their simple goals,
The things we provide are merely our roles,
yet makes me wonder do they even care?

I believe for them it is just plain and simple,
they live life to the fullest and totally grandish,
they require or ask for nothing outlandish,
I no longer wonder, as I now know — this is simply
why they do what they do.
