Nutrition
Parrots derive nutrients from the foods they consume.
Parrots possess a high-metabolic rate and therefore require
nutrient-dense foods that will produce the high energy they
require. It is wise to increase these nutrient
requirements during growth periods, breeding, molting, extreme
changes to their environment, sickness or injury.
Enzymes are important to all of us, parrots included. So a
diet of raw fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts and
sprouts are a perfect combination.
There are many points of view to the nutritional area for
your parrots. Again this website shows you what works for my
flock.
What Works at My Home
Breakfast — consists of birdie bread, sprouts, fresh
vegetables and fruit. The example shown is: birdie bread, snap
peas, apples, carrots, sprouts. Breakfast is always sprinkled
with a powdered combination I mix. This mix consists of organic powdered
garlic, BarleyMax®, CarrotJuiceMax™ and BeetMax. This
combination allows my parrots (in my opinion) to receive extra
nutrients.
Supper — consists of a warm meal. This could be a cooked bean
mix, rice mix, pasta mix, scrambled eggs with veggies etc. Then
I add a good essential oil. For example: I rotate between Udo's
oil, flax oil, hemp oil, red palm oil and cold-pressed coconut oil.
Night Snack — this is when they receive their seed mix, nuts,
pellets etc.
I have created a number of recipes. They are
not difficult. They are here to help you get ideas for your flock.
